A "Major" Decision
I have no clue what to major in when I start college. How can I decide?
Don't be in a big hurry to declare a major - most students change their major at least once while in college, and some change twice.
Gather your facts
Gather facts about several majors that interest you. Talk to your academic advisor about your selections, and look down the road at advanced classes in each major. Some students change majors because they can't handle upper level courses.
Join In
Join student organizations in areas that relate to potential careers. You'll meet other students with similar interests and discover if the fit is right.
Take classes that interest you
The classes you take your freshman and sophomore year can help narrow your major selection. Along with core requirements, take classes that motivate and excite you.
It's time to declare!
By the time you've explored your options and taken entry-level courses, you should be ready to declare a major by the end of your sophomore year. And that should give you enough time to finish college in four years.
Investigate job-shadowing opportunities for your child in professions that interest him or her. Arrange for job shadowing the summer before college or during college breaks.
