With so many adjustments, how can I succeed my freshman year?

We asked college sophomores to answer this question. They share advice they wish they had before starting college.

Manage your time. If you want to have a life your freshman year take advantage of free time during the day to study so you can have some fun during the evenings.

You're on your own. Your parents aren't around to remind you to do your homework and your instructors won't remind you either.

Go to class! It's just too difficult to keep up if you skip. And shut the door to your dorm room when you're studying so that people will leave you alone.

Review your notes for 10-15 minutes after class - or at least by that evening. Then you'll know what that abbreviation or half-sentence meant. Fill in blanks you won't remember later.

Seek out study groups. Study with students in the same class. It's amazing how much you'll remember when you discuss it with someone.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. Get to know your professors and your academic advisor - they're there to help you. Tutors and teaching assistants are also available if you're struggling in a class.
